Postdoctoral researcher in mechanochemistry

The School of Engineering and Architecture of Fribourg (HEIA-FR), a member institution of the Uni- versity of Applied Sciences and Arts of Western Switzerland (HES-SO), offers bilingual study programs at the BSc and MSc levels.

Mission and field of activity

The research project focuses on the development and application of mechanochemistry, a branch of chemistry that involves the use of mechanical force to drive chemical transformations. This methodology has become the cornerstone of a more efficient and environmentally friendly means of chemical synthesis. A fully funded two-year Postdoctoral researcher position is offered for the candidate to establish whether mechanochemical technologies (Bead-mill, twin screw extrusion) can be applied for the purpose, and to study the scale-up of various chemical transformations protecting the environment through the efficient removal of solvents and/or toxic reagents. This innovative methodology has the potential to offer a game-changing solution to develop safe, efficient, eco-sustainable and cost-effective processes. The research includes the design and synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients and/or their key intermediates as well as processes and chemical engineering activities. This position is part of the IMPACTIVE Horizon Europe project consisting of 17 partners in 11 countries, including two major EU companies (Merck & Novartis). The position offers the opportunity to participate in international conferences and in the writing of publications and patents.
