Requirements for admission
Interested in the BA in Mechanical Engineering? Admission requirements for applicants of all educational backgrounds are listed below. The Academic Service is available to answer any questions and to provide further information.
With a Federal VET Diploma + Federal Vocational Baccalaureate
Admission to the degree program is direct if the following conditions are met:
- The applicant has a Federal VET Diploma in the selected field of study (list of accepted professions)
- The applicant has a Federal Vocational Baccalaureate

If your Federal VET Diploma does not fall within the accepted professions (see the list above), the following conditions apply:
- Possession of a Federal VET Diploma and a Federal Vocational Baccalaureate
- One year of work experience in the selected field of study in the form of an internship

With a Baccalaureate from a Swiss Baccalaureate School
For admission to the chosen degree program, the following conditions apply:
- Possession of a Baccalaureate Diploma (from a Swiss Baccalaureate School)
- One year of work experience in the selected field of study in the form of a company internship

With a Specialized Baccalaureate from a Swiss Specialized School
The following conditions apply for holders of a Specialized Baccalaureate from a Swiss Specialized School:
- Possession of a Specialized Baccalaureate
- One year of work experience in the selected field of study in the form of a company internship

For holders of both a Specialized Baccalaureate and a Federal VET Diploma, the following conditions apply:
- Admission is direct if the Federal VET Diploma falls within the chosen field of study (list of accepted professions)
- For other professions, applicants must have one year of work experience in the selected field of study in the form of an internship

With other Swiss diplomas
For holders of Advanced Federal Diplomas of Higher Education (from a Swiss College of Higher Education):
- Admission is direct if the diploma falls within the chosen field of study
- For diplomas in other domains, the applicant must also have one year of work experience in the selected field of study in the form of a company internship

For holders of other diplomas:
- After the age of 25, admission is judged on a case by case basis to determine if the applicant’s professional background can be deemed equivalent in terms of professional and personal competencies
- One year of work experience in close connection to the selected field of study is required
- The applicant must pass an admission exam

With a foreign diploma
For applicants with foreign diplomas, the following conditions apply:
- The rules of admission of the HES-SO
- Implementation provisions for the rules of admission to the Bachelor’s degree in the domains of Engineering and Architecture (sections B and C)
- One year of work experience in close connection with the selected field of study
- Admission requirements for holders of a French Baccalaureate

Complementary exam for admission to Swiss Schools of Higher Education (ECUS)
- The ECUS website contains all the useful information about the exam (content, place, date, cost)
- Exam period: August 2025
- The ECUS exam covers 5 subjects: French, Mathematics, History, English and Physics (optional subject)
